Allpress Fortitude Valley, designed by interior architecture studio Foolscap, reflects the international coffee roaster’s reputation for excellence and innovation through an equally contemporary interior. The space is anchored by an inventive material palette, reinforcing both craft and sustainability at the core of the brand.
Marking the brand’s Fortitude Valley location in Brisbane, the brief was to service passing trade, highlight Allpress Espresso’s technical expertise, and localise the space with a warm, patinated material palette. Drawing inspiration from the classic ‘Queenslander’ — a quintessential Australian architectural style informed by mid-century design principles, this is expressed through exaggerated planes and vertical elements that influence both retail display and the overall spatial experience.
Grounding the cafe in its community and creating an authentic sense of place, collaboration with local makers and circular design solutions was central to the concept. Foolscap worked closely with Brisbane-based Mineral Fox on a new-to-market wall render made from recycled coffee chaff – the outer layer of a coffee bean that separates during the roasting process. The organic chaff render is balanced with rich Australian blackbutt timber joinery and clean stainless-steel shelving, while the durable palette ensures efficiency and longevity in the coffee zones.

A central coffee bar serves as the beating heart of the space, featuring a striking green-pigmented concrete pour-over benchtop by Five Mile Radius. Australian furniture designers Dowel Jones and Remington Matters contributed custom pieces that reflect craft, sustainability, and a strong sense of place.
Thoughtful touchpoints throughout Allpress Fortitude Valley encourage meaningful interactions between customers and staff, centred around the ritual of preparing and drinking coffee. Foolscap’s design enhances the customer experience, creating a space that is both easy to navigate and deeply engaging, while reflecting the brand’s dedication to craft, sustainability, and innovation.
