Gordon Street Garage

Formally a mechanic’s workshop and based on the ideal of an Italian garage, Gordon Street Garage became a hospitality institution in West Perth's unassuming industrial area.

Foolscap developed a concept centred on ‘classic Italian home cooking’, which informed the interior treatment and references the Italian ideal. Mediterranean blues and whites underpin a collection of hand-painted tiles over the service bars clad in zinc.

The large space was zoned to create a variety of dining experiences; faster seating at the front includes stools, smaller tables, a communal dining area and standing spots for a quick coffee. The folded zinc bar takes centre stage, providing informal bar-style seating, while back-of-house accommodates slower dining with softer banquette seating and family-style tables under the mezzanine.

The space is generous and accommodating. Intimate dining suits small groups, while large communal tables at the front and upstairs in the mezzanine welcome larger gatherings. Reflecting the Italian garage concept, the restaurant exudes warmth and community, creating a space where all guests feel part of the family.
